Many people think of Kentucky as a coal State, which we are, but we are also a nuclear State.

Kentucky's unemployment rate is right at 10 percent. We cannot afford to lose 1 more job, let alone 1,200.

But that is not the issue at Paducah, is it? That is going to happen in Portsmouth.

I think I correctly heard you that you have no plan to re-enrich the tails.

If they were re-enriched, it would be a profitable venture.

So, you would rather make the money later than make the money now.

If there is the potential for DOE to save these jobs, would you not think that would be worth pursuing?

Well, you know, we have got 1,200 employees sitting there wondering if they are going to be without a job.

These are Government-owned resources, highly valued, stored in a lot which could be sold to create revenue for the Government.

So, under this scenario, it strikes me the Government loses an opportunity for revenue, we lose 1,200 jobs, and you are not funding the cleanup.

But you start re-enriching them now; you still employ 1,200 people.

What is the Department of Defense's plan for these two critical functions, for the overall future workload at BGAD in this vein and for the relevant work force at BGAD?

I am strongly opposed to the administration's proposal of a new funding mechanism, which would replace the existing fuel tax.

If one of the goals of this administration is to reduce emissions, then why reduce funding for fossil energy?

Had we chosen to repeat history, we would have allowed a government shutdown. Instead we decided to make history by implementing in the middle of this fiscal year substantial reductions in spending.
