We believe that people are getting killed because of the fentanyl that's coming across the border every day.

The American people have suffered from the lack of oversight and accountability.

Today's hearing is the first step in examining the massive waste, fraud, and abuse in COVID relief programs.

Unfortunately, Democrats conducted little oversight of the over $2 trillion spent under the CARES Act.

I would love to join in a joint investigation of the Kentucky unemployment system and New York unemployment system.

More than $1 trillion had been flagged by GAO as at-risk for waste, fraud, abuse.

The Biden Administration faced little to no scrutiny under unchecked one-party Democrat rule in Washington.

As chairman, I intend to focus this committee's attention and resources on its core mission, to ensure our government is working for the American people in an efficient manner.

Our Nation is facing the worst border crisis in American history.

That is why this first hearing is so important.

A congressional subpoena is a powerful tool which should be used in limited circumstances.

We have a big agenda, and we are just going to work really hard and try to be very effective for the taxpayers and the American people.

I do believe there will be a lot of opportunities to work together.

We are going to be returning this committee to its core mission, and that is to ensure that taxpayer dollars are not being mismanaged, abused, or wasted.

I am optimistic that we will be able to find a good, constructive, collaborative path forward.

I just love this newfound willingness for bipartisanship. I think we are going to get along just fine.

I believe will be the most exciting and effective committee for this Congress.

The American people have made clear that they want this committee to conduct fair and rigorous oversight, and we will do that.

I have full confidence that you will only issue subpoenas, Mr. Chairman, judiciously and full confidence that you, Mr. Chairman, and your staff will not lose track of any of them.
