I am very disappointed that the President has put forth a budget request in order to avoid the very same budget caps he signed into law last year.

Of the 2.5 million Americans who need treatment for opioid use disorders, less than 1 million are receiving it. That is a serious problem, and we have got to do something about it.

I am pleased that the President's budget recognizes the scope of opioid abuse in America and prioritizes treatment for those suffering from addiction.

The critical access hospitals, these hospitals face a unique set of challenges. In my rural district, we have seven critical access hospitals. Many of them are already struggling to keep their doors open.

It is simply disingenuous.

I am disappointed that the important goals that we share for your department are undermined, frankly, by what I consider a partisan nature of that request.

The threats facing our homeland and our troops grow more complex and unpredictable with each passing day.

As the force gets smaller, risk increases.

We are not out to keep China down. But we don't look for anybody to dominate the region and certainly not anybody to push the United States out.

By all accounts, China is positioning itself to exert more influence in the Pacific and trying to build itself into a maritime power.

I am equally confident that the bow wave of procurement that I alluded to in my opening remarks...

They want to meet. They want input. But they cannot do it until you send them the documents that back up your claim.

That rule is expected to destroy over 280,000 jobs in Appalachia and elsewhere.

The stream protection rule that I referred to has been a boondoggle wrought with controversy from day one.

I have said many times and I have heard you say it many times that there is no one answer to the problem, that it does take enforcement, treatment and education, a holistic approach.

If we want to see any further success in treating victims of abuse and educating the public about the danger that is present, I think that we have got to be sure that enforcement on the front end is emphasized and in fact ironclad.

I mean there is a lot of money that is being circulated in their country before it is caught on to be counterfeiting elsewhere.

We lose a hundred Americans every day to abuse.

I am deeply disappointed by the efforts to ratchet down border security and enforcement of our immigration laws.

Everyday the FBI is on the razor's edge in protecting our homeland from extremism.

I have heard from law enforcement people around the country about the importance of that very flexible grant program to their crime prevention and drug enforcement activities.

Thank you very much. Thanks for the recognition of a former life. But I enjoyed my, enjoy is not the word, I appreciated the time that I served as DA and law enforcement.

I cannot imagine anyone in this Congress seriously considering it.
