Eliminating 50 committees, especially as there has not been a systemic review in 26 years, does not seem like a daunting challenge to me.

Nothing could be further from the truth. The executive order clearly states that one-third of discretionary advisory committees should be eliminated.

While not explicitly stated as part of the purpose of this hearing, I think we can all see the majority's intention is to make this hearing a chance for former EPA advisory members to defend the charter of their committee.

There are just 47 percent total in tariffs now on American beef going in there.

Though we are known more for wheat, cattle, and ethanol production, Kansans are affected every day by our oceans.

All Americans benefit from a better understanding of our oceans, whether we live on a farm in western Kansas, or a coastal community along the ocean.

Having a better understanding of our oceans is an important component of promoting economic development.

I think we keep the goal in mind, if our goal is to innovate, as opposed to just researching for researching.

Is there anything that we can do to promote those relationships and work on this challenge together?

Is there any interaction between what we're doing and some folks from there?

A recent proclamation from the White House notes that our oceans, along with the Great Lakes, generate more than $320 billion in economic activity annually.

This committee should ensure that universities, private companies, and non-profit groups can continue the mission of increasing our knowledge of our oceans for the benefit of our country.
