Pat Roberts is a former United States Senator from Kansas, serving from 1997 to 2021. A member of the Republican Party, he was known for his work on agricultural policy and national security issues during his tenure. Before his time in the Senate, Roberts served in the U.S. House of Representatives from 1981 to 1997. Throughout his political career, he focused on issues important to Kansas, including farming and rural development. Roberts was also involved in various committees, including the Senate Committee on Agriculture, Nutrition, and Forestry, where he played a significant role in shaping agricultural legislation.
Service on the Intelligence Committee takes and must take place largely behind closed doors and without fanfare.
This Committee passed the first forestry bill in 13 years that gets into management reform.
I think this is a subject area where if it is not the number one issue, that is why a lot of folks that I represent feel ruled and not governed, and they get really upset.
Let me say, with regards to those proposed cuts not in this room, not on my watch, not on the watch of many of us here on the Committee.
As I mentioned in my opening statement, in a recent announcement, FDA stated that lab tests marketed as screening tools for ovarian cancer were not supported by definitive evidence.
It is essential that the CFTC have individuals in charge that truly take that mission statement to heart.
Many of us here raised concerns when Dodd-Frank was being considered and insisted that the legislation should not negatively impact those who had nothing to do with the causes of the 2008 crisis.
It was not the farmer, the rancher, the producer or the commercial end user that caused the great financial crisis of 2008, yet they are paying the price.
That goes into your bank. That is certainly within the boundaries of the distinguished Senator.
I'm glad that we have another opportunity to continue our discussion on implementing this important new law, the Every Student Succeeds Act, effectively and faithfully to make sure all our students have access to high-quality education.
