Tonight, there is one subject—a very special one—about which to talk, and one which the American people, all of them, without regard to race or party or creed or color or any other thing, will want to hear.
Eisenhower
The Public Record
Dwight D. Eisenhower was the 34th President of the United States, serving from 1953 to 1961. A member of the Republican Party, he was born in Kansas and rose to prominence as a five-star general in the United States Army during World War II. Eisenhower served as the Supreme Commander of the Allied Expeditionary Forces in Europe, overseeing the successful D-Day invasion and the liberation of Western Europe from Nazi control.

As I drove on this battlefield just now, it occurred to me, what a spot in which to remind ourselves how much we all want peace.
Today there is going on over in Europe negotiations for which I personally have the greatest of hope.
