We are convinced that with the coming into effect of the Agreements signed this past weekend, the road towards a strong and united Europe will have been paved.

Dwight D. Eisenhower was the 34th President of the United States, serving from 1953 to 1961. A member of the Republican Party, he was born in Kansas and rose to prominence as a five-star general in the United States Army during World War II. Eisenhower served as the Supreme Commander of the Allied Expeditionary Forces in Europe, overseeing the successful D-Day invasion and the liberation of Western Europe from Nazi control.
We particularly addressed ourselves to the question of German reunification.
No man could have done more effective work than you to further that hope.
We have no doubt that the strengthening of free Europe which will result from the recent London and Paris Agreements, will aid our efforts to bring freedom and unity to all of the German people.
We are agreed that this aim shall be achieved only by peaceful means.
At home, we have redeemed our pledge of 1952 to give America clean and efficient government.
These are some of the accomplishments that came about through the cooperation of Congress and the Administration in our joint effort to provide improved personnel management and sound benefits for Federal employees.
With understanding and support among Federal employees, I know we will succeed.
