A member of the Republican Party, he was born in Kansas and rose to prominence as a five-star general in the United States Army during World War II. Eisenhower served as the Supreme Commander of the Allied Expeditionary Forces in Europe, overseeing the successful D-Day invasion and the liberation of Western Europe from Nazi control.
