Our unity as a nation is sustained by free communication of thought and by easy transportation of people and goods.

In the councils of government, we must guard against the acquisition of unwarranted influence, whether sought or unsought, by the military-industrial complex. The potential for the disastrous rise of misplaced power exists and will persist.

Our entire history since the birth of my Nation has been that of friendship.

We must not be either patronizing, resentful, or treat them as a stranger or enemy.
