I live in Chicago, Illinois, and my hometown has the largest concentration of companies that process sugar-contained products made in our country.

And I see this as a big area that has to be looked at.

For the record, I want to be crystal clear. In today's world, private debt collection will only make a bad situation much worse.

Congress must fully fund the IRS. Despite the success of the filing season, I am concerned that the agency does not have the resources to serve taxpayers.

Frederick Douglass said, "It is easier to build strong children than to repair broken men."

So it has a tremendous amount of potential.

But the issue that I came to talk about is that of urban farming, or developing an approach to urban farming, where it, in actuality, is much more than pipe dreams that people talk about.

The two of them together have developed an approach that we hope will become a large entity.

I am here today to advocate for a critical program that is reconnecting families and stabilizing communities, the Second Chance Act.

Could targeted Federal investment make a real difference in the kind of communities you have studied?

We can invest in lifting up those communities and those families.

Each one of you talked about a lack of local resources for addressing some of the key challenges of poverty--skill-building, supports like child care, health care, transportation, and housing.

Poverty and lack of opportunity have consequences, not just for individuals and their families but also for their communities.

We can stop insulting people by suggesting work requirements for programs that offer struggling families food or basic health care.

The Affordable Care Act has greatly improved access to care for tens of millions of Americans.

I feel very strongly that our laws should incentivize colleges and universities to do more for their low-income students.

I am concerned about the unemployment safety net. Certain groups of Americans continue to struggle.

I have looked at this for a long time. So thank you very much for your testimony.

I think the reality is that it is working much better than many people would have us believe.

Many of our minorities are disproportionately more likely to suffer deleterious health just because they are low-income wage owners, poor in health, and suffer worse health outcomes, and are more likely to die prematurely and often from…

Clearly, today more than ever, Congress should maintain and enhance our nation's investment in training tomorrow's physician workforce.

I certainly empathize with you in terms of just the feeling, and I am sure there are others who have had that feeling, that somehow or another you have been unjustifiably treated.

we are hoping that, with this policy change, individuals who fit that category will no longer have this problem.
