This is why I am an original co-sponsor of the National Park Service Legacy Act, with Representatives Hurd, Kilmer, and Reichert.
Unfortunately, current funding and revenue streams have not been able to address the needs of aging assets and infrastructure.
We must remember that sufficient resources are also provided for day-to-day operations and partnerships to ensure visitor satisfaction.
When Congress is scrutinizing that list, it is important to identify which areas deserve the most attention and which projects, in the Agency's own view, are most critical.
Let me also point out two programs, also really not a lot of money, but has grave impact if you cut it.

Can you tell me that, even if the President zeroes it out, would you have the discretion to, if Congress approves it, is that what you would need, for Congress to give a line item on it for you to over-ride the President?
I hope you call upon your, I think it is about 1.2 million, members of the National Park Conservation Association to assist us with getting the legacy fund bill through.
So, in other words, 60 percent every year is falling into this category called deferred maintenance.
