The Administration's attempt, which I think was very misdirected--the attempt to permanently shutter the Yucca Mountain project is still in the process of being litigated.

As Inspectors General, you all have the important responsibility of conducting and supervising audits and investigations; providing leadership; recommending policies; and preventing and detecting waste, fraud, and abuse and mismanagement…

At a time when we face the possibility of large scale arbitrary cuts, to both domestic and military programs, I believe that any charges of wasting taxpayer dollars, or using them to run an ineffective office, must be investigated.

If indeed Mr. Zinser or any Inspector General has allowed his office to be abused, or become ineffective, then we in Congress have the responsibility to bring that to light.

I urge my colleagues - Republicans and Democrats alike--to take advantage of the opportunity this hearing presents.

I want to have a strong IG system.

The public deserves to know and use of alias email accounts is obviously a way of trying to get away from Freedom of Information Act.

This is the best repository--it is not a disposal; it is a repository, in my opinion, of this nuclear waste.

I believe that this is a serious challenge facing the Agency as it moves forward.

The American people--the hard-working taxpayers of America are counting on you to do so.

The President has stated that if he cannot get his radical environmental agenda pushed through Congress that he is going to go around Congress.

Well, the American hard-working taxpayers need all you guys to be very diligent.

When can we expect the report of that review?

We were promised by the President that he would have the most transparent Administration in history, and it seems that he has redefined transparency to be obscurity.

This is a $15 billion tunnel to nowhere in the middle of Nevada.

We indicated that we were concerned that after the expenditures of nearly $15 billion, that there would be no appropriate means to maintain that information.

These are serious concerns about serious amounts of taxpayer money that require this Committee's attention.

I appreciate our witnesses' willingness to work with us.

To use a trite phrase, the fox watching the henhouse is not appropriate and I hope you all look into that.

The American public are very fearful, concerned, and that is the reason that the news media has been focusing on this issue so long.

This is an extremely important issue and it is a constitutional issue for me.

Certainly, this is of great concerns to Americans not only because of the safety just generally but also because if Dr. Humphreys and his students can spoof the GPS system, what could other nation-states or terrorist groups do also.
