Does this hinder the Department's ability to protect minority voters before a discriminatory practice goes into effect?

The majority of the Court appears to fear that the Voting Rights Act is too, quote, 'radical,' end quote, that it will invalidate too many State voting laws.

Yet, the Supreme Court has treated this special statute worse than other law passed by Congress, first, by eviscerating section 4, and thus, castrating section 5.

To paraphrase Justice Kagan, never before has a statute been as extraordinary, required more sacrifice, and done more to advance our democracy than the Voting Rights Act.

The 15th, 19th, and 26th Amendments guarantee the right to vote, and if the right to vote is denied, those so deprived lose the ability to preserve all other constitutionally guaranteed rights and our country becomes a democracy in name…

This is our country. We built this country. And so nobody has a claim to it bigger and better than us.

We either have a democracy or we don`t. And if everyone can`t vote in this country, if some can`t vote because of their race, then this is not a true democracy.

We built this country.

If you narrow the path to the ballot box, this casts a dark shadow over a lot of things.

We either have a democracy or we don`t.

These folks are trying to kill us right now, as far as our right to vote. They`re trying to kill our democracy.

Well, I`m going to give you a straight answer. No. And I`m sorry about that.

The Federal Government must implement a comprehensive paid family and medical leave policy and we must do so now.

The cosmos, as Carl Sagan once said, is all that is or ever was or ever will be.

I find it deeply disturbing but not surprising that Justice Scalia would be caught up in a secret, private meeting with legislators.

Just the mere fact of meeting and having a private breakfast is deeply disturbing.

The same family, and Dr. Richard Sackler in particular, who are largely responsible for creating the opioid epidemic are now poised to rake in billions of dollars for a new drug that they say will wean people off of OxyContin.

Since 1999, almost half a million people have died from opioid overdoses in this country.

The actions of Purdue Pharma and the Sackler family are blamed justly for fueling the U.S. opioid crisis.
