Mr. President, I pledge to you that I will do everything I can through the strength of Christ who strengthens me to better the condition of our people.

This extraordinary, historic hearing today would not have happened if it were not for the hard work and the help, tremendous help, and the leadership of Mike Conaway.

It may have been a germination of a seed coming from me, but its growth, its development, and to make sure this happened, comes from you.

We are here to carry on that mighty work that these extraordinary founders of the 1890s established to improve and better the condition of all of the American people.

This is a crisis as Mr. McGovern articulated of national security but more than that, world security.

World hunger is a world-wide issue now of staggering dimensions.

The world's population is booming, which means the world's hunger problem is booming.

We thank You for the gift of being able to be selected by the people of this nation to serve here in Congress.

I think anybody looking at this would agree that it appears that this industry does need more time to implement this regulation.

I don't see why there is this objection to this bill to provide, what is it, 5 months maybe from August to December?

I would just like to ask if our Committee could go on record to encourage the Department of Agriculture, and more specifically the Risk Management Agency, to take a serious look at this so that we can make sure that we are treating our…

There is one area where our cotton producers are not being treated fairly, and particularly in my State of Georgia.

I don't know how many people know this, but my State of Georgia is the second largest producer of cotton, second only to Texas.

I certainly commend Mr. Garrett on the legislation.

And one of the challenges is that we are constrained by fundamental principles of arithmetic; if the money isn't there, you can't wish it there.

The use of private contractors did not demonstrate additional savings or efficiencies that would enhance the competitiveness of U.S. grain exports in the global market.

I am a strong supporter of the CFPB, but we have been getting a few concerns.

I thought it would be good for us to ask this question because we are going to have to put together a new bill for reauthorization of CFTC.
