It is absolutely staggering. In some of our communities, particularly with African-American males between the ages of 18 and 37, it is over 22 percent, and in some communities it is as high as 50 percent.

But I say to you, Mrs. Yellen, you do have the tools. You have your voice.

So, we have to look at this as a national crisis. And I ask you to do that.

What is so frustrating to me is that you are in the position to say something, to do something. This is intolerable.

Is there a dollar figure, is there something that is tangible that the regulators, the CFTC or whoever we would need to talk to about this date, that we could say X amount of money would be lost?

My concern in this entire harmonization cross-border equivalency issue has been to make sure that our financial firms, our clearinghouses, our market participants, are not put in a competitive disadvantage in the global marketplace.

One of our major concerns is to make sure that our two regulatory agencies themselves can harmonize.

The derivatives and swaps market that we are dealing with is an $600+ trillion piece of the world's economy.

Yes. And so, Mr. Duffy, you are saying that that date puts our U.S. businesses at a competitive disadvantage if we don't move it back?

This is indeed an important and very timely hearing.

We certainly don't want to do anything that would hurt American businesses.

Yes. And how about your ability, am I right in assuming that you would be able to work with food banks in a much better resource allocation way to be able to get that food so it gets to the needy people, rather than rotting in the fields?

we have failed to address the number one issue that we here in Congress can do to address food shortage, and that is to make sure our agriculture and our farmers, those who are producing our crops like blueberries, have the adequate supply…

to help our farmers be able to have the labor to get food out of the fields and into the hands and at the tables of those people who need it most.

I have a concern that--CFPB is a wonderful organization, I have no qualms with that, doing a fine job.

My concern is this, and each of you will--could this rule by the CFPB effectively eliminate the availability of arbitration for our consumers?
