I don't mind investing the money if we know how it is being spent, but to come and ask for more and we haven't been able to spend it.

John Mica is a former U.S. Representative who served Florida's 7th congressional district from 1993 to 2017. A member of the Republican Party, Mica was known for his work on transportation and infrastructure issues, playing a significant role in shaping policies related to these areas during his tenure. He was also involved in various legislative efforts aimed at improving the economy and supporting local businesses in Florida. Mica's long career in public service included a focus on constituent services and community engagement.
The next generation of transportation is high-speed rail, and we are on track to accomplish it.
We have to change the law and some of the policy that we are in charge of in order to make things truly shovel-ready.
I was interested to find the European Union is now opening, in a couple of years, all of the public transportation operations for high-speed and other rail service to the private sector.
It should be built, it can be built, it can be self-sustaining, it can be a great project.
I am pleased to welcome everyone to this hearing and this opportunity to review the progress of high-speed rail.

We are doing for the next generation what previous generations did for us, we have an obligation to do what other generations did.
I tried to negotiate with the Governor and others and there were others other interests in the State that wanted to go all the way to Tampa.
Today is another one of our hearings focused on passenger rail in the United States, and this is an oversight hearing.
