You have so delayed WMATA getting funds due it that it has had to go and do short-term borrowing.

For the first time in its history, this system, Metro, is doing short-term borrowing in order to get operating funds.

The pension liability was pre-home rule liability.

When Metro shuts down, the Federal Government shuts down.

Without Federal assistance--and Eleanor Holmes Norton was the leader on this, and you remember this--without Federal assistance, we would not have made it.

The State of Michigan bears, and here I am quoting their words, 'primary responsibility,' for the water crisis in Flint.

The EPA must notify residents when water samples show lead levels for the highest 10 percent of homes at above 15 parts per billion.

I see responsibility on the part of the Federal and the State levels.

With all of the concern about police abuse that we see, particularly among young people, I do want to be clear that police lives really matter.

I'm always concerned that guns get away from people, because any guns in the District of Columbia must come from outside.

I want to say again that I don't see how OPM can do anything but recommend to the President that there be lifetime protection.

So I must say that the very least we owe Federal employees, given this breach, it would seem to me is lifetime protection for data that cannot be changed.

The entire country has been awakened by the lead in the water crisis in Flint, Michigan.

I understand that this number, since they can only stay 4 years, that that number is depleted every time you get to the end of the 4-year term.

I wanted to see how many people were in this position.

I understand that we are here talking about what we loosely call data preservation and security, but we are doing so for the IRS, where the data that we most want to keep to ourselves is to be found.

Is there any conceivable justification for a company that had nothing to do with the R&D, taking over a company, and then overnight raising the price so that it is, let's be fair, out of reach for patients and even some hospitals?

Now, isn't it interesting that for 60 years somehow, a company had been able to manufacture this drug for $13.50 per tablet, but when you purchased it, the tablet overnight went to $750 per tablet.

Unfortunately, this Congress is the same. We create select committees and drive all kinds of important people to testify over issues that they think are important.

Mr. Creagh, there are many people in the Michigan State government that could have stopped this tragedy from occurring.

It's unfortunate and a travesty that we have crises like these occurring around the country every day, whether it's toxic drinking water, toxic land, subhuman tenements, crumbling schools.

Is the water now safe to drink?

These people are not going to remove themselves from Flint. They can't sell their homes now.

Neither the Federal Government nor your State--the Federal Government should have been pressing this, should have been giving money for this.

So watch out everybody. When you are told that there is no lead in your water, they could be pre-flushing because nobody is looking to see whether pre-flushing is going on.
