Antony Blinken is the 71st United States Secretary of State, having been appointed by President Joe Biden in January 2021. A member of the Democratic Party, Blinken has played a significant role in shaping U.S. foreign policy, focusing on issues such as international alliances, climate change, and global security. He previously served as Deputy National Security Advisor and Deputy National Security Advisor during the Obama administration, where he was involved in key diplomatic initiatives, including the Iran nuclear deal.
I am determined that we bring him home, as well. We are not letting up in that effort in the least.
I think it is a very important and powerful tool, one that that I appreciate.
Winning is going to be defined by the Ukrainians, and we will support whatever they decide is in their interest.
I think a number of factors came into play. I think he saw Ukraine moving inexorably to the west, to Europe, and he saw nothing that was going to interrupt that process.
We also have to make sure, and this is an area of real focus, that we have, and the DFC can be engaged in viable projects.
We are back on the Human Rights Council we were able to actually lead in the creation of this Commission of Inquiry for Ukraine.
This is, as Chairman Leahy said, a very, very dramatic problem that already existed of course, and has been exacerbated by Russia's aggression, by the invasion.
I think this partnership has the potential to be one of the most important and foundational partnerships that we have going forward, over the next decades.
