To my friends from Texas and Oregon, I would say to the gentleman from Texas: you are absolutely right, it is against Federal law, and that is something that we as a legislature need to look at very closely. We are dealing with issues…
Ed Perlmutter
The Public Record
Ed Perlmutter is a Democratic politician who served as a U.S. Representative for Colorado's 7th congressional district from 2007 until 2023. During his time in Congress, he focused on issues such as healthcare, renewable energy, and economic development. Perlmutter was known for his work on the House Financial Services Committee and his advocacy for small businesses and job creation in Colorado. He has been an active voice in promoting policies aimed at improving the lives of his constituents and addressing pressing national issues.
I--along with Senator Michael Bennet and Rep. Ed Perlmutter--wrote to VA Secretary Shinseki in March of this year urging VA to allow USACE to conduct a Design-Construction Evaluation, or DCE on the Aurora project.
We will not ask our veterans to wait any longer than absolutely necessary for this hospital.
Again, I thank Chairman Coffman and Ranking Member Kirkpatrick for their attention to this important issue.
The time has come to focus our efforts on ensuring the completion of this hospital. Our veterans deserve nothing less and the people of Colorado and our nation expect it.
The mismanagement is killing these projects, and nobody seems to be held accountable.
The original design called for an approximately $1.1 billion state-of-the-art medical center, but Congress authorized and appropriated $800 million for acquisition of approximately 40 acres of land and several buildings, as well as design…
This hospital has been one of my top priorities for seven years, for six of those the project was in my congressional district, only to be removed in the redistricting process.
Just give us a vote. Just give us a vote on comprehensive immigration reform. The United States Senate passed a bill almost a year ago, in a bipartisan fashion, on comprehensive immigration reform. Americans want comprehensive immigration…
We have seen politicians in the past abuse it, and at the top of the list would be Richard Nixon.
And I applaud the regulators for putting a strong Volcker Rule in place to try to prevent this type of risk-taking going forward.
I did an amendment, too, that was--and I would offer it into the record, too, the amendment that did pass, which was two pages long.
In Dodd-Frank we tried to, by an amendment, return to the separation of commercial banks from investment banks.
But we can't have the same kinds of losses that we suffered in 2008. At least not in my lifetime, I don't want to see them again.
The Volcker Rule will ensure Federal dollars are no longer used to protect losses from risky trading.
So, look, we know why folks want to kill the Volcker Rule, but, in all honesty, I think it is a good step.
The U.S. posted a record December budget surplus as higher payroll taxes, payments from Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, and a declining unemployment rate helped improve the government's finances.
Well, I thank my friend from Tennessee and my friend from Kentucky. Three years ago today, one of our best friends here, Gabby Giffords, was shot, shot at close range, shot when she was doing her job, Congress on the Corner. She was out in…
I thank the gentleman from Tennessee, because I want to just talk about something Mr. Welch said and also something Mr. Courtney said. Mr. Courtney said that she had worked on some things involving technology with respect to the VA, and…
First I want to address H.R. 3309, the Innovation Act, which is generally a good bill. It is trying to deal with issues of nuisance litigation where somebody is sued and the costs of litigation are so extreme that they pay money just to…
Today, I rise to tell the story of the Montez Family, who live in my congressional district in Colorado. They live in Arvada, Colorado, and because of the Affordable Care Act, they will now be able to afford health insurance. This is a…
They have three children. They work two jobs. Neither employer of the mom or dad provides health insurance. Finally, after all these years, they have been able to get health insurance at about $150 using the credits that are available…
