On the recordSeptember 28, 1999
Mr. DeMINT. Mr. Speaker, when we get past all of the rhetoric, the legislation, and the debate, our job here in Congress is to try to secure the future for every American. There are no Americans more deserving than our senior citizens who have put into this Social Security system all of their lives. The reason we have this resolution today and the reason I support it is that we are having difficulty in this budget process bringing one side of this room to the table to work in good faith to solve our budget differences without spending Social Security. I rise in strong support of this resolution so that we can all go on Record that we are committed not to spend any Social Security surplus, and we will work out our budget differences aside from that.
