On the recordNovember 14, 2002
I rise in support of H.R. 5063, as amended. This bill would temporarily extend unemployment benefits for an additional 5 weeks. It also will extend the funding and rules for the Nation's welfare reform program through March 31, 2003, allowing us additional time to reauthorize the historic 1996 law. Mr. Speaker, we must keep the pressure on to reauthorize welfare reform for 5 years as quickly as possible. This will be our goal in the next Congress, and we look forward to working with both Republicans and Democrats to get this job done. I urge my colleagues to support this bill.
