Richard Nixon: “It is time for the Federal government to get out of the operation and ownership of the Alaska Railroad.”

This was a serious act of omission for which I take full responsibility and which I deeply regret.

This, more than anything, is what I hope will be my legacy to you, to our country, as I leave the Presidency.

To leave office before my term is completed is abhorrent to every instinct in my body.

I did not realize the extent of the implications which these conversations might now appear to have.
