I would like to speak to the comments of the gentlewoman from Connecticut [Mrs. Kennelly] who said children will be impacted by this bill. My children are impacted by the debt service that we are building up in this country. I say to my colleagues: If you take a look at $1.3 billion a day that we are spending on just the interest, we could take that money and apply it to some of the things that we want to in this Chamber. But if we continue and cannot cut a sliver out of $1.2 trillion over a 5-year period, you cannot tell the American people that we cannot do that.
