H.R. 2360, the Career-Ready Student Veterans Act, ensures that career education programs designed to prepare our student veterans for entry into the workforce are actually doing so.

I particularly want to also congratulate my colleague, who is not here, Miss Rice, on seeing her very first piece of legislation pass the House, H.R. 1382, the BRAVE Act.

Thank you, Mr. Chairman. As we gather today, I just want to take a moment to thank you, Chairman Wenstrup, for conducting the Economic Opportunity Subcommittee in such a productive, positive, and bipartisan manner in this Congress.

The fact that it is good public policy and that it is also helping us save dollars, in terms of adverse health consequences to malnutrition.

I think we all can agree that helping struggling mothers and hungry babies and young children is a good thing to do, and it is good public policy.

In general these schools tend to have students that come from backgrounds that are challenged.

But there are five that are like mine, that are like Sherman Indian Institute.

How many of those boarding schools, like mine, exist in the country? There are relatively few, aren't there?

I am concerned about the payment delays.

Their role is only going to increase as the nature of our voluntary military is going to need the increased participation of women in our Nation's defense.

I know only too well the consequences of the increasing role that our women play in our Nation's defense.

I think it is incumbent upon us to make sure that they are truly gateways to opportunity.

It has been five years since the Affordable Care Act was passed.

Well, I am not so much in opposition to the rule because of not allowing other budgets to be considered, but because of the way the rule is structured, I would rather see us be able to consider H.R. 1434. If we would oppose the rule and…

I strongly support all of these pieces of legislation.

I am confident her legislation will result in an increase in the number of jobs available to veterans and I applaud her efforts in getting right to work for veterans on Capitol Hill.

I am not seeing it justified.

I was shocked when I first heard that brave men and women with combat injuries who are receiving medical treatment on active-duty military orders are not allowed to count their recovery time towards earning education benefits.

So you don't see this legislation as usurping the authority of the states to be able to regulate?

I have concerns about H.R. 476. Do you believe that the states should be able to have additional powers to regulate schools with the state authorizing agencies?

I ask you to reconsider this provision.

I fear that this provision will have serious negative impacts on our veterans.

This is a no-brainer, a cost of war, let's do the right thing by these injured servicemen, servicemembers, and give them the benefits they need and deserve.

I am confident her legislation will result in the number of jobs available to veterans and I applaud her efforts in getting right to work for veterans on Capitol Hill.

I believe that the majority of these bills move us towards this subcommittee's purpose, increasing economic opportunity for our nation's veterans.
