Janet Louise Yellen is an American economist currently serving as the 78th United States Secretary of the Treasury, a position she has held since January 26, 2021. She is a member of the Democratic Party and has a distinguished career in economic policy and public service. Yellen previously served as the Chair of the Federal Reserve from 2014 to 2018, becoming the first woman to hold that role. During her tenure at the Federal Reserve, she focused on issues such as unemployment and inflation, advocating for policies aimed at economic recovery following the 2008 financial crisis.
It makes one question when America might become the next Greece. When, in your view, when do we have to say enough is enough when it comes to our deficit and our debt?
And I would agree with that answer, and it is something we are working as hard as we possibly can to do, to get vaccination rates up, to deal with the pandemic.
I think there are threats to financial stability that have come from the growth of activity in the shadow banking sector.
If I am privileged to be confirmed, I would be committed to ensuring that the Treasury Department and the IRS administer tax laws in a fair and even-handed manner, keeping politics out of the process.

Thanks to this Congress--and its passage of the American Rescue Plan--I believe we are well on our way toward that goal.
I would plead with Congress simply to protect the full faith and credit of the United States by acting to raise or suspend the debt limit as soon as possible.
