As you mentioned in your testimony, the military has faced a white supremacist threat before, and our country is currently dealing with an international terror threat that manifests through radicalized lone actors.

What authorities do you need from us to make your job easier?

So we are going to change the system, so it is responsive to the families, because words don't have any weight unless they are followed up with actions.

Why wouldn't you have family members serving on this advisory panel?

And I would say to you, Ms. Stevens, that we could solve a lot of our problems if we just take the Marine Corps model and implement it in every one of the services.

It is not good enough to come here and make happy talk about how you want to be helpful.

And you can all say that we are here for the families, but unless we are going to show it by action, we are not achieving that result.

Schools are not following the law because they know they cannot follow the law and be allowed to get away with it.

There should be accountability.

We actually have to look in our own house as we address this issue, because we don't fund the IDEA program at the level we are supposed to.

I am telling you at the outset that we are going to be hawks on this.

We are going to have all of you come back every 3 months to give us a briefing.

The fact is, parents focused on finding appropriate care for their kids will be less focused on their jobs.

I don't think there is a true appreciation of what these families are going through.

Are they sufficiently educated in their roles to provide advice, or are they basically just railway conductors sending people from one location to another?

I am deeply skeptical that the program has improved over time.

What we need more than anything are dedicated legal personnel at each base that can provide the legal advice and counsel for families.

I was also taken by one of the comments that they will, quote, 'wait you out,' because they know you are a military family.
