Herbert Hoover: “I have been very anxious to secure a proper readjustment of civil service employees' retirement funds.”

You have always been a public spirited citizen, working for the best interests of your state and of the nation and I know that whether in diplomatic work or at home, you will continue to render valuable service.

My dear Mrs. Bird: I am deeply grieved to learn of the death of your brother, the universally beloved Father Francis P. Duffy.
