“I stand in strong support of the Armey amendment to H.R. 6. Millions of American children are schooled at home by parents who are deeply committed to their education, and I believe it is absolutely essential that Congress respect these parents' right to do so. The Armey amendment will ensure that the Federal Government does not interfere with private, religious, or home schools that do not choose to accept Federal assistance. It also ensures that private and religious schools that do choose to participate in Federal programs may continue doing so. Private, religious, and home schooling provides important alternatives for American families. The Armey amendment ensures that our families continue to have the choices they need to meet their children's educational needs, and I urge its support.”
