I am a cosponsor of H.R. 3132, the Children's Safety Act. I would have voted ``yes'' on this legislation. However, I am in New York City on official business for the House of Representatives. I was appointed by Speaker Hastert as a delegate from the Committee on International Relations to serve as a representative to the United Nations General Assembly. H.R. 3132 will help to address loopholes in current sex offender notification requirements, so that parents and the public can be armed with knowledge of any sex offenders living and working in their community. This legislation addresses a number of child crime issues, including registration of sex offenders, violent crimes against children, sexual crimes against children, sexual exploitation of children, and protection of foster and adopted children. The Children's Safety Act was drafted in response to the recent horrific attacks and murders of Jessica Lunsford, Sarah Lunde, Jetseta Gage, and others who have recently been killed by sex offenders. I strongly support this bill and look forward to it becoming law.
