I do not think the American people would stand for it 1 second if you tried to repeal the Clean Water Act, you would be voted out of office.
It is time to restore much-needed certainty, consistency, and effectiveness and S. 1140 does just the opposite.
This amendment simply says the bill is null and void if EPA or the Corps determines that implementation of the bill will increase costs.
This bill rips the heart out of the rule and frankly, out of the Clean Water Act.
The final Clean Water Rule that S. 1140 will block clearly protects streams that provide drinking water to millions of Americans while establishing exemptions for numerous water bodies that do not impact downstream water quality.
We are supposed to protect the health of the people while ensuring that we have an economically robust society.
Today's hearing will examine the critically important steps that the Obama administration is taking to strengthen the ozone standard, which will save lives and protect the health of our children and families.
When we passed the Clean Air Act, everybody said the same thing that my dear friend, the Chairman said, the same thing my friend the Majority Leader said, and Senator Thune, a staggering blow to the economy.
