I was one of three Senators who was not in chambers on January 6th.

If justice will prevail, enough of our Republican colleagues will be true to their conscience, true to their values, true to the oath they’ve taken and vote to convict Donald Trump.

It’s absolutely constitutional and legal and more than appropriate in this case.

If people are true to their oath, then we should be convicting Trump in short order. And if we don’t, then I think there’s going to be a lot of Republicans with a lot of explaining to do.

Nobody should be above the law. Donald Trump especially is not above the law.

He invited the mob on the 6th, he incited the mob on the 6th. And then he turned them towards the U.S. Capitol.

In my opinion, they deserve not just safety in the workplace but dignity and a pathway to citizenship.

It is also an economic imperative.

The Federal Government is the government for all Americans, regardless of party, regardless of State.

California often found itself being shortchanged by Federal Government grant programs, particularly those that are discretionary.

It should follow the facts and evidence and the needs of States and should not matter at all the political orientation of a State.

One immediate step that the administration could take to relieve the burden on our communities would be to increase the Federal cost share of FEMA-eligible expenses.

Trump`s words incited, not just a protest. This was not a riot. This was an insurrection, a violent, fatal rebellion in our nation`s capital.

As horrific as the images were, I have been saying over and over again it`s equally horrific that the violence did not come as a surprise, if you have been listening to Donald Trump not just that morning, but for years now.

I certainly don`t sense that, not in the last couple of weeks, as a conversation has been around impeachment.

Nobody is above the law. Donald Trump must be held accountable. But it does not end with him.

It's not just that the members of the Senate... are the victims of what happened on January 6. The trial itself is happening at the scene of the crime.

Republicans can't have it both ways. They're in this job to execute the oath of office that we have all sworn to do, to uphold the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic.

God, I certainly hope not. Look, even though Trump's days are numbered, like millions of Americans, can't wait for January 20th, I think the remnants of Trump are going to linger and we're going to have to commit ourselves to the long haul…

I just want to say thank you and please know I will make you proud and make California proud by getting it done in the U.S. and we've got a lot of work to do. And now I'm ready. I'm ready.

It's precisely for these reasons that California law says as long as your vote by mail ballot is postmarked on or before Election Day it can arrive up to three days after the election and still be counted.
