Hydro is back, and I think with the good work that you and Senator Shaheen are doing, we can amend that and say energy efficiency is coming back, too.

As good as $10 million is in this budget and my environment, we know that we need $850 million, give or take a little bit.

I will do everything that I can working with you and other members of this subcommittee to make sure that they have what they need.

I have long been a hydropower proponent. I consider hydropower to be our hardest working renewable resource.

$8 million is not enough. We are a State that is one-fifth the size of the United States, and 80 percent of the communities are not accessible by road.

There is no way around the need to make sure spent fuel and the nuclear waste from these plants is safely managed.

I think it is important to recognize that we have huge opportunities there.

We're sitting here at $16.8 trillion in debt. We've got a budget in front of us that adds more.

But all appearances now seem to be that the U.S. is backing away from this.

This is an important program in the State of Alaska.

I am concerned about that aspect of it.
