I was very pleased that Presidents Obama and Hu agreed on a clean energy package that included several measures to advance our relationship with China.

I think we need to try harder. Hundreds of billions of dollars in exports of clean energy and environmental goods and services are needed to get us to a clean energy future.

Lowering the cost of clean energy, such as solar, is exactly what we need to be doing.

I am concerned about the recent trade complaints and their effect on the over 2,000 solar employees in Washington state.

I fully agree that it should be in both countries' interests for China to remove its trade barriers.

I think it's not to say that none of this will be manufactured -all of it will be manufactured in the U.S. and none of it comes from China.

I think we recognize that oftentimes if we have a buy-America requirement that that may add to the cost.

It's critical that the United States be a leader in that of next generation technologies and that we position ourselves to do that.

It's either going to be more affordable energy, but maybe we compromise on whether it is built here in America with jobs in America, or a tradeoff with environmental aspect?

Grid parity, being able to deploy clean energy at a cost-effective, sort of cost-effective way that is competitive with fossil fuels and other forms of energy.

Senator Murkowski, we so deeply appreciate your commitment to our nation's energy security and your leadership in supporting efforts to improve our industrial competitiveness.

Finally, the U.S. and China have common interests in deploying clean energy.

The U.S. cannot compete on a level playing field with countries that have strong industrial policies when our own policies are inconsistent and erratic.

I remain very, very troubled with the high level of suicide that we are seeing with our military, also with our veteran population.

The clear legislation that Senator Murkowski has proposed would bring us together because it would set a level of clarity

Legislation along the lines being proposed by Senator Murkowski would alter the balance between ensuring protection of a defendant's constitutional rights and safeguarding the equally important public interest.

This case should never have gone to the jury, and with 20/20 hindsight, it is now evident that the right of the people of Alaska to select a Senator of their choosing was interfered with by the Justice Department's malfeasance

I so appreciate the fact that you have convened this hearing today to take up what I believe we all agree is an important issue.

We would first like to thank the Arthritis Foundation's 2012 Advocacy Leadership Award recipient, Senator Murkowski, for being a champion for the cause of arthritis research in the past.

It is increasingly important that we renew our commitment to ensure that the promises made to our Veterans are promises that we honor.

I hope that the MOU helps the VA reassume its responsibility to veterans.

Thank you Chairman Akaka and Vice Chair Barrasso, I would like to thank you for holding this important and timely hearing on programs and services for Native veterans.

I will continue to advocate for the needs of military children and for mental health services for our veterans.

I'm intrigued by some of your proposals, Mr. Jenkins, about how we really do get to reform of some of our subsidies and how we figure out what the ramping is.

I believe there are 3 guards that are very important if the government is going to have to make difficult choices which the government has to do.
