We thought it’s more appropriate for us to focus on celebrating in Canada here today.

Let us remember why we built this bridge: to connect our communities and our countries, to inspire and improve lives, to create and safeguard jobs, to build a resilient future — and to build Canada strong.

This bridge is a testament of what we can build when we work together.

That faster predictable border crossing will save carriers roughly 850,000 hours a year.

Given the recent tariff action from the US, we felt that we should focus today on celebrating here in Canada.

Our understanding is we’re opening the bridge on Monday.

We felt it’s inappropriate to have a big joint celebration when we’re working through those challenges.

In turn, we remain committed to opening the bridge on July 27, and to celebrating this milestone among Canadians on July 24.

The Gordie Howe International Bridge remains a vital infrastructure project that reflects years of hard work and will be a major economic driver in the region, expanding options for commuters, tourists, businesses, and families.

Canada will continue to collect all toll revenue, with half of net profits then going towards local economic development for 15 years.
