Mr. President, I rise to express my support for legislation that will force a partial cease-fire in the Obama administration's war on coal. If we move forward with Senator Inhofe's resolution of disapproval, we will end one of the most egregious rules promulgated by an administration that, in the words of President Obama, hopes to see the price of electricity necessarily skyrocket. Coal is our Nation's most abundant energy resource. It provides approximately half our Nation with low-cost, reliable electricity. In my State of Wyoming, more than 6,800 people are employed directly by the coal industry. They make an average salary of more than $77,000 each year, which is $35,000 more than the average wage in the State. When we count those employed directly and indirectly, nearly 30,000 people in Wyoming depend on the coal mining industry for jobs. Nationwide, the numbers are much larger. The coal industry employs 136,000 people directly, with an average salary of $73,000 per year. For every coal mining job in the United States, we see 3.5 jobs created in another part of the economy. Simply put, the coal industry puts people to work. In an economy that is struggling to recover, the coal industry provides high-paying jobs for workers in Wyoming and in other States such as West Virginia, Pennsylvania, and Virginia. Coal provides low-cost electricity across the country that can power our Nation's manufacturing base.…
