This amendment is also supported by the National Association of Attorneys General. I would like to read from the attorneys general letter of support. This is an excerpt. The Attorneys General believe that the Secretary lacks any statutory authority for the proposed procedures. Twenty-five state Attorneys General led by Attorney General Bob Butterworth filed a letter with the Secretary setting out our views at length. We believe the Secretary must seek statutory amendments to the Indian Gaming Regulatory Act to achieve the authority he asserts and have encouraged him to engage in a dialogue with states and tribes to work toward that goal.
