Today we gather here to show our respect and honor for the two men who died Friday heroically in the line of duty. I knew both of them. They were both very fine men, family men. Their sacrifice needs to remind all of us how very much we owe to all policemen and law enforcement officers across this Nation who similarly put their lives on the line every single day for the public safety and to protect the freedom that so often we take for granted. It is very sad that it takes something like this for us to express our appreciation to those people who protect us and look out for us every day, as we cross the street and the officers stop the traffic. From the bottom of my heart, I thank them both, and their families as well. I express my sincere condolences to all of them and thank them for the sacrifice that they have made for us.
