I have found in my time here that those who remain obsessed about certain aspects of legislation almost always find that that obsessive behavior is often visited subsequently on the perpetrator. That is not my idea. That is just the way that works. It is always a more genial approach. I visited with Senator Dorgan this morning, told him exactly what the lay of the land was and why. I did not receive that same courtesy. Enough of that. We can debate that at any time in the future. It seems to me the present status of the issue is with regard to this amendment on the current ban on open-field searches. That is the amendment at hand.
