I share my colleagues concern about the President's budget cuts of more than $2.2 billion to NIH overall.

We can't afford to not invest in medical research.

I have always supported strong funding for NIH because it is an investment that saves lives.

I am gravely concerned about the reports stating that cancer rates are significantly higher in Minden than the rest of Fayette County and the rest of the State.

We are dragging our feet on this and this is inexcusable.

I do want to say that step one, though, is to have the director of the Office of National Drug Control Policy at this hearing, at that table right there.

We've got $3.5 billion to support a policy that does not exist at this point, and that is inexcusable.

Have they shown any inclination to sit down and negotiate at all an Iran deal as far as the sanctions?

The Iran deal, the sanctions on Iran, are you able to hammer down on these sanctions to bring them back into play?

If we are not able to own natural resources, coal or gas deposits in China, China should not be able to buy and own that in our country.

If we are not able, as the United States companies or corporations, to own any financial wherewithal or institutions in China, then China should not be able to come in to buy into our markets.

We are very much concerned about this.

This is just a commonsense step that will ensure that hospitals and medical professionals have access to the information that they need to provide medically appropriate care and keep us from losing more people like we lost Jessie Grubb.

In 2016, we lost a young woman with great potential named Jessica Grubb.

We have a 15 percent set-aside, but that depends on how quickly and how capably you all are able to administer it to make sure it gets to that front line, because we're in need. We're very much in need.

Would you say, Secretary, that a lot of the pricing in America, being some of the highest cost in the world for life-saving drugs... is it because of the pricing, the way we sell it, the way we get it to market that's causing that?

This was all preventable. Senator Capito was a co-sponsor with me on this. It should have never happened.
