Joe Manchin is a United States Senator from West Virginia, serving since 2010. A member of the Democratic Party, he previously held the position of Governor of West Virginia from 2005 to 2010. Manchin is known for his centrist approach and has often positioned himself as a bridge between moderate Democrats and Republicans in the Senate. His legislative focus includes issues such as infrastructure, energy policy, and healthcare.
I feel very passionately that those soldiers that are representing us overseas and protecting us, who deserve the best systems possible, and when the ability to provide those systems to our soldiers is jeopardized, that's a travesty.
Would it be devastating to our defense, for our Defense Department? We rely on so much of this.
They have a big chunk of a bargaining tool right now if they want to use it. Correct?
The fact that China maintains a near monopoly on the critical components needed for our defense system is beyond comprehension.
You are held up in every state right now, because there is no benefit or gain other than promise of jobs or taking the product out of their state.
But with that we want to make sure we produce the product that the country needs, but I would hope that you would look at that because I can tell you we would be very receptive.
I would give you all a suggestion, being a former Governor, on how you can get your pipelines permitted much easier through the states by sharing the revenue.
I come from the State of West Virginia which has an awful lot of energy and has done the heavy lifting for a long time.
We don't produce one ounce of the rare earth minerals that we consume tremendously in every product that we use and in most of our defense products.
It makes all the sense in the world, and we are talking about a fraction, but it is guaranteed revenue.
Everything we know in a capitalist society is market driven, to an extent, except when we need it, for the defense of our country.
Do you believe there should be the same alert that we have for a nuclear attack as a cyber-attack?
There's no question that the Russians were attempting to be as involved as they possibly could at a higher level than they've ever done before.

We have the midterms elections we're all concerned about because they're very critical for those of us who are involved.
We are all for these changes from the standpoint of an all-in energy policy, but to just throw two under the bus is basically taking us to where we have--for the next 24 months--the need for reliable power.

I was so disappointed to see that the President's budget completely eliminated funding for this program--a $1.2 billion cut to Federal funding for afterschool and summer programs.
