I am committed to reducing the number of deaths from carbon monoxide (CO) poisoning which is why I support S. 1250: The Nicholas and Zachary Burt Memorial Carbon Monoxide Poisoning Prevention Act.

Well India is going to build more coal-fired plants than China in the next five years.

Coal is going to be a dominant or a significant factor of energy production in the world.

I cannot understand why you went to CO2 emissions by 2030 but did not address any particulates and SOX and NOX.

With all that being said we all agree that coal is going to be used in the world for some time, that we all need to use it better and cleaner with technology, but we are not investing in technology.

Do you see any other country in the world that is depending on coal moving away from coal as quickly as we are in this nation or following our lead?

We have been a big energy producer for the country, net exporter of energy.

Our entire Nation should do the common sense safety implementation.

The fact that one of the biggest reasons I am hearing is because of a lack of resources, often small changes that could be being made that we are not investing.

Until this deadly accident, you were able to do it before you put it back in service. It could have been done before and prevented the accident.

The most inexpensive way, situational awareness, is a visual screen that everybody pretty much has on their automobile today.

The question in Congress has not been whether to extend the deadline, but rather how to extend the deadline.

I would really like to. I mean, the timetables that you are going to be able to meet on this because we have an awful lot of crude moving through West Virginia.

Could you report back to this committee... what evaluations you have on immediate safety procedures you could put in with technology or anything that is available?

It looks like you all, for the sake of budget constraints, bottom line, profit margins, return on investments--is making decisions that basically should never have been made.

This is not Democratic. I am a Democrat and this is a Democratic Administration. This is not Democrat and Republican. It is just common sense.

Gang, let me tell you we are all in this together. That is all I can tell you.

Our little state works its tail off. They are trying, but boy, I will tell you, the uncertainty right now.

I want clean air, and I want clean water, as clean as I feasibly can make it.

We are not diversified enough. We have got our eggs in one basket. We are going to get smacked hard, and the country is going to be in jeopardy, but for some reason there is a blind eye to all of this.

We are trying to make it. We have wind and solar. We are trying everything, but we know that a majority of that is coming from our coal.

I think we have had some good discussion on cyber security today.

Secretary Moniz has offered to come to West Virginia, and he will be the first official in that type of environmental realm.

I come from West Virginia and they look at me and say, 'Oh, he doesn't care about the climate.'

I am pleased that we have had some good discussion and an opportunity to hear from you all on the importance, the significance, of utilizing our energy resources as assets.
