I commend HUD for getting this funding out the door quickly.

This subcommittee's job is to provide the oversight and resources to make sure that HUD can effectively fulfill its responsibilities.

Positive train control is an important new technology that will help, we believe, and prevent some of these train-to-train collisions and derailments.

So you really need that legislation.

That's why we need to move quickly toward a long-term authorization of the highway, safety, and transit programs.

Seeing these programs shut off, even just for a short time, is especially troubling.

We cannot stop working until our economy is steadily growing again and any American who wants a job can find one.

We are obligated morally and ethically to try to find them.

What the VA is doing, is it a matter of resources? Is it a matter of hiring people? Is it a matter of greater attention?

And the transition and long-term support of this is extremely important and I will be exploring that more as I put my legislation together, so I appreciate that.

How we deal with this issue, I think, is really visible to our men and women who serve, that we are going to be there for them when they come home.

I think that is really important, because we can't just treat this like coming to the VA with a cold and we are sending you home.
