Jim McDermott is a former U.S. Representative from Washington, serving from 1989 to 2017. A member of the Democratic Party, he represented Washington's 7th congressional district. During his tenure, McDermott was known for his advocacy on healthcare issues, social justice, and economic equality. He played a significant role in the passage of the Affordable Care Act and was a vocal critic of the Iraq War. McDermott also served on various committees, including the Ways and Means Committee, where he focused on tax policy and healthcare reform.
On the surface, what's going on with tax policy in Washington right now seems crazy.
So it is saying we are really going to make these tax cuts and the only place we will get the money is by borrowing it internationally to continue the level of services that we have in this country.
Talks about the history of taxation and that we establish progressive taxation along the Greek lines because we realize the people at the top got most of the benefits, so they ought to pay most of the taxes.
Our action last fall to improve the child welfare system represented a bipartisan, bicameral commitment to work together to significantly improve the lives of our most vulnerable children. But our work is not done.
