I know how bad the situation is there, having previously represented that area.
Hawaii is a critical piece of our national security strategy and Department of Defense activities in Asia and beyond.
What Russia has done in the Ukraine is a blatant violation of international law, a blatant violation of all manner of different treaties which Russia has signed.
I very much agree with President Obama, who said these actions by Putin are more a sign of weakness than they are a sign of strength.
Mr. Putin is playing a long game, and the West must also play a strategic long game.
We have to try to alter this behavior, certainly condemn it, but try to find ways to hopefully make sure it does not happen in the future.
One of the biggest problems is, just in general with all QDRs, is the unpredictability of, gosh, 2, 3 years in the future, much less 15 or 20.
We must ensure that our military is prepared for the challenges we face today and in the future.
Our thoughts and prayers are with them and their families, as regrettably another child--another tragedy strikes that base.
