Mr. Chairman, the elected Representatives of the people are the best ones to be held accountable for the laws and regulations passed and adopted in this country, including those that protect children. This would turn back to a situation where unelected bureaucrats can take whatever time they want to, write whatever regulation they want to, and then that would take effect without the Congress having to have the ability to say, yes, that truly will protect children or, no, that will not protect children. We should have that responsibility. That is something that the American people expect from their elected representatives. For that reason, I oppose this amendment. I yield back the balance of my time. The Acting CHAIR. The question is on the amendment offered by the gentleman from Rhode Island (Mr. Cicilline). The question was taken; and the Acting Chair announced that the noes appeared to have it.
