A member of the Republican Party, he previously served as the Governor of Texas from January 17, 1995, until December 21, 2000. His presidency was marked by significant events, including the September 11 attacks in 2001 and the subsequent wars in Afghanistan and Iraq. Bush's domestic policies included tax cuts, education reform, and Medicare prescription drug benefits.
