George W. Bush is the 43rd President of the United States, serving from January 20, 2001, to January 20, 2009. A member of the Republican Party, he previously served as the Governor of Texas from January 17, 1995, until December 21, 2000. His presidency was marked by significant events, including the September 11 attacks in 2001 and the subsequent wars in Afghanistan and Iraq. Bush's domestic policies included tax cuts, education reform, and Medicare prescription drug benefits.
I am for increasing supply, because I understand when the more supply there is of a product, that will take pressure off of price.
The storms have shown how fragile the balance is between supply and demand in America.

Saudi Arabia is cooperating with efforts to combat international terrorism.
This increases the flexibility of our energy distribution system, allowing fuel to be delivered more rapidly to areas that need it.
We will use the Strategic Petroleum Reserve to help refineries with crude oil.
We want to do what we can to prevent something like what happened in terms of the response with Katrina from ever happening again.
One of the things we need to consider is, is there a trigger that comes into play in the event of a catastrophic event or an extraordinary situation.
I don't know how many sorties were flown in Katrina, but there must have been thousands of sorties.
Part of the reason I've come down here...was to better understand how the Federal Government can plan and surge equipment, to mitigate natural disasters.
I want to make sure there's a very clear line of authority who is going to oversee that response.
People from the region need to listen to the Governor about when it's safe to return to the region.
I would ask for those of you in the State to—who are in safe places now, not to hurry back to a city like Houston and let these highways flow the necessary goods and services to the people in deep east Texas who have been affected.
The military has the capabilities to, and the logistics and communications needed to come in and take control quickly in the event of a catastrophic event.
The mission was vital to all of us who are doing our duty to protect the American people.
I came here to see first hand how the Northern -- see the Northern Command in action, and to tell everyone that what you are involved in is something that's really important.

I'm really here to let the folks in Texas know that the Federal Government knows we have a responsibility to support you in the mission of saving lives, first and foremost, and then help and rebuild their lives.
