George H.W. Bush was the 41st President of the United States, serving from January 20, 1989, to January 20, 1993. A member of the Republican Party, he previously held the office of Vice President under Ronald Reagan from 1981 to 1989. Bush was a World War II veteran and served in various roles within the U.S. government, including as Director of the Central Intelligence Agency from 1976 to 1977. His presidency is noted for significant events such as the Gulf War and the fall of the Berlin Wall, as well as his efforts in foreign policy and international diplomacy.
You didn't vote them into law. I didn't sign them into law. Yet, they are treated as if they have the force of law. The time has come to end this practice.
We must make Social Security financially stable and allow personal retirement accounts for younger workers who choose them.
This Congress must act to encourage conservation, promote technology, build infrastructure, and it must act to increase energy production at home so America is less dependent on foreign oil.
Our country is pursuing a new strategy in Iraq, and I ask you to give it a chance to work.
Let's fill in the work we've done and reduce gasoline usage in the United States by 20 percent in the next 10 years.
What Congress has given, the Congress should not take away. For the sake of job growth, the tax cuts you passed should be permanent.
And we must have a rational, humane guest worker program that rejects amnesty, allows temporary jobs for people who seek them legally, and reduces smuggling and crime at the border.
if we withdraw prematurely from Iraq, then we will see the next 9/11 erupt from that country, which will be Afghanistan under the Taliban, only 100 times worse.
this president is willing to bet the rest of his presidency to have the next two years be a living hell for him to prevent that from happening.
The need to protect ourselves from radicals and terrorists. The needs to win the war on terror.
We've all been entrusted with public office at a momentous time in our nation's history. And together we have important things to do. It's time to set aside politics, and focus on the future.
