George H.W. Bush was the 41st President of the United States, serving from January 20, 1989, to January 20, 1993. A member of the Republican Party, he previously held the office of Vice President under Ronald Reagan from 1981 to 1989. Bush was a World War II veteran and served in various roles within the U.S. government, including as Director of the Central Intelligence Agency from 1976 to 1977. His presidency is noted for significant events such as the Gulf War and the fall of the Berlin Wall, as well as his efforts in foreign policy and international diplomacy.
Across Afghanistan last year the number of roadside bombs almost doubled. Direct fire attacks on international forces almost tripled, and suicide bombings grew nearly fivefold.
There's no contradiction that the weapons are there and they were provided by the Quds Force.
My hope, however, is that this nonbinding resolution doesn't try to turn into a binding policy that prevents our troops from doing that which I have asked them to do.
The assessment made by some that this is not a good deal is just flat wrong. Now, those who say the North Koreans have got to prove themselves by actually following through on the deal are right. And I'm one. This is a good first step.
What we don't know is whether or not the head leaders of Iran ordered the Qods Force to do what they did.
There are weapons in Iraq that are harming U.S. troops because of the Quds force.
I guess my reaction to all the noise about, you know, he wants to go to war, is, first of all, I don't understand the tactics. And I guess I would say it's political.
Today I'm sending the Congress a wartime supplemental appropriations request of $74.7 billion to fund needs directly arising from the Iraqi conflict and our global war against terror.
This new strategy will not yield an immediate end to suicide bombings, assassinations or IED attacks.
Iran is providing material support for attacks on American troops. We will disrupt the attacks on our forces.
