Every year, according to the State Department and the Department of Justice, between 14- and 17,000 people are trafficked in the United States.

We must work to protect at-risk individuals and create safer neighborhoods and communities in Texas and across the United States.

This is not a sprint. This is a marathon, and there are a lot of issues.

I ask my colleagues on both sides of the aisle to not let the perfect be the enemy of the good and to support this important legislation.

I think everyone here should share in the administration's goal of lowering prices, but I do worry that the benefits to Medicare may not outweigh the risks when it comes to vulnerable patient populations.

Some of us were on the committee when we drafted the prescription drug plan, Medicare Part D, in 2003, and it was also a very partisan issue, just like the Affordable Care Act.

While it is clear that Part D programs provide prescription drugs for Medicare beneficiaries who previously didn't have it, there is still room to improve the program.

It is important to note that Texas is the face of the changing energy landscape.

Medicare is critical to the well-being of our Nation's seniors and people with disabilities, many of whom have low to moderate incomes and complex healthcare needs.

I think that is acknowledged, that it did extend the life of Medicare with the Affordable Care Act.

This is an example of real bipartisan reform that helps people get the health care they need.

Thank you, Mr. Chairman. And I want to thank our panelists and thank the Chair and the ranking member for listing this number of bills on our schedule for today.

I understand that there are concerns, but this proposal is a work in progress.
